Why Get Naked When You Can Get Nude...

Hey Lovies!

I know the title of this post threw some of y'all for a loop...LOL! No, I'm not turning into some weirdo, perverted blogger...I just thought the title would be catching and kinda funny. Anyway, the purpose of this post is to give you makeup junkies an opportunity to save some money.

Everyone has been going gaga over the Naked and Naked II palettes by Urban Decay and rightfully so...it's a great product made by a great brand, BUT not everyone has a spare $50 plus dollars to spend OR if you're anything like me you're a frugalista and don't want to spend $50 when you can get a comparable product for half the price! Yes lovies, I said it...you can get an eyeshadow palette similar to the Naked Palette for half the price.

Our friends at NYX have the Nude palette and it is quite similar to the Urban Decay palette and HALF the price, $24.99?! Now I will let yall know I did not purchase the palette, but I plan on doing so and I'm certain I will be pleased. I'm an avid user of NYX products and I've yet to be disappointed. NYX products have great pigment and coverage and I'm certain y'all will love the product just as much as I do.

NYX products, including the Nude Palette, can be purchased at ULTA and some beauty supply stores carry NYX products.

If you try out the palette or any other NYX product, let me know by posting a comment or sending me an email.

Ciao lovies and see ya at the TOP!

Does It Work?

Hey Lovies! I was perusing (don't y'all just love that word? PERUSING) Facebook one more before I got out of bed to get ready for work and I came across a post about attaining beautiful hair. The post read a little something like this...

'Indian women are known for their beautiful hair. Hair oil massages are a big thing. Once per week apply coconut, olive, or almond oil to the hair, massage it in for five minutes, leave on for ten minutes and then shampoo.'

I haven't tried this, but it may be worth a shot especially since I'm rockin' my natural curls these days and I have a crazy hard time maintaining the moisture. I'll give it a whirl sometime this week or next week and let y'all know how it works out. If any of y'all give it a whirl, let me know what you think!

DIY Skin Miracle Worker: Nutmeg and Honey Mask

Hey Lovies! As y'all all know, I am the DIY Queen! I am ALWAYS trying to make something; whether it's coasters, a wreath, a cardigan, a tutu, or some baking/cooking concoction I'm just ALWAYS up to something. With that being said, it should be no surprise to any of you that I have come up with a skin soother/acne scar reducer. Now I will say that I did not come up with this one on my own, I have actually been searching high and low for a natural product to help me with some skin discoloration on my jawline. After much Googling, I found something I think might work and lucky for all of us we probably have a lot of the ingredients right in our kitchen. What's the miracle concoction you may ask? Well, it's nutmeg and honey! Yes, I said nutmeg and honey! These two products mixed together are a powerful combination! Honey and nutmeg both have curative properties that help reduce swelling, infection and assist with the regeneration of skin. In layman's terms, what that means for all of us is we can have smoother, less obvious acne marks at a fraction of the cost we'd normally pay for treatments at the spa.

Below I have provided the science behind each ingredient and the recipe for making the mask:

Honey:

Honey is widely demonstrated to have antibacterial properties, with some being sold as therapeutic agents (Journal of Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing).

Heals skin from wounds.

When applied to acne spots, honey may stop swelling by killing infection.

Heals scars more quickly and smoothly.

Nutmeg:

Journal of Natural Products states that mace, a substance found in nutmeg "exhibits strong antifungal and antibacterial activities."

Like honey, nutmeg can reduce infection and swelling around clogged pores, resulting in smaller spots and smoother scars.

The Recipe:

Combine 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg and 1 tablespoon of honey. Gently apply the concoction to the entire face or the affected area. Whatever you do, do not rub the concoction into skin as it could cause irritation. Leave the concoction on your skin for at least thirty minutes and then rinse with warm water. After rinsing, apply moisturizer as normal.

Extras: To increase the potency, you may add a little cinnamon to the mixture. The cinnamon adds to the astringent and antifungal effect, while increasing the exfoliation potential.

So lovies, there you have it, the DIY Skin Miracle Worker. Give it a whirl and let me know how it works out for you by commenting below.

Food For Thought: Success

Yikes, Lovies! It's the fifth day of September and I haven't blessed your email inboxes or the web with ANYTHING! Shame on me! I hope you all had a GREAT holiday weekend, I know I did. I spent the weekend 'chillaxin' (that's Chillin + Relaxin = chillaxin) on my couch, working on some projects for a GREAT event I have coming up with some of my Wichita gal pals, thinking of outfits to put together for my new Twitter friend @MyDearElle's Blogger Icon Series (it's going to be FIRE y'all), and a ton of other things that I can't seem to remember (I guess that means I had a lot of fun or I slept a lot...I think it's a combo of the two)!

Anyway lovies, I'm in the process of putting together some great posts and I'm certain you'll enjoy EVERY single one. I will be focusing on Fall Fashion, Fashion Week events,  Make-up Tips, Celebrity interviews (yes, y'all I'm coming up in the world!) and a host of other fun and exciting things! So as I work on these projects, I need y'all to bear with me. I'm in the process of drawing my road map to the TOP! Check out this picture of 'Success'...it's not as simple as it seems! :)

Stuck in your jeans?! Run chapstick, yes chapstick on the zipper to loosen it up.

Need to shine your shoes? Take a dab of lotion, put it on a paper towel and shine away!

Want to prevent soap scum? Add a little baby oil to your soap dish before placing the bar of soap into the dish.

Foggy mirror? Prevent shower fog on mirror by wiping mirror down with shaving cream...for some odd reason or another it prevents fog...BEATS ME! LOL!

Give some of these a whirl and let me know how they work out for ya!

Freebie Friday...Kinda...

Hey Lovies! Lord knows I LOVE free stuff, thigns I can get done on the cheap-cheap and of course D-I-Y projects.

So ummm yeah...in the spirit of saving a little more here and there I have some fun little recipes you can try at home for little to no cost to you, especially if you already have these items in your pantry or fridge.

Ciao Lovies and see ya at the TOP!

Make Your Own Lip Gloss:

No time to run to the store, no ends (throwback term for the word 'money') to run to the MAC counter and spend about $15.00 on a tube of lip gloss? Welp...never fear, I'm here to tell you how YOU, yes YOU can make your own lip gloss. If you have vaseline and Kool-Aid, yes...Kool-Aid...you're in the business and you can start making your own lip gloss.

Simply take a scoop of vaseline, not too much...put it in the microwave for about ten to fifteen seconds...add the Kool-Aid for color and BAM! Your own lip gloss...Wasn't that easy?

Next...

Make Your Own Acne Treatment:

Everybody hates a pimple, right? Well, here's a quick and easy recipe to help you fight the little monsters that tend to show up on your face at the most inopportune time. All you need is one uncoated aspirin tablet and four drops of water. Take the aspirin tablet, crush it, add the four drops of water and apply the paste to the affected area. Let the paste sit on the affected area for about three minutes and then rinse with cold water.
If you're having a serious break out, make a mask...follow the same steps, just use more crushed aspirin and more water. Easy, right?

Oh I forgot to mention, this concoction can also be used to reduce pores and prevent future outbreaks! Man, gotta love a little aspirin!

Last one, lovies...

Teeth Whitener:

Forget Crest White Strips! Make your own teeth whitener by taking a cap full of peroxide and swish it around in your mouth for a couple of minutes, spit it out and follow up with a swig of water and *TING!* your teeth are as white as Madea's...HELLUR...GOOD MORNTING!

No More Snowflakes...

Hey Lovies!

Nothing worse than someone having 'snowflakes' that are NOT snowflakes on their shoulders, right? The 'snowflakes' that are NOT snowflakes are dandruff. Dandruff is defined as the flakiness on the scalp, a symptom of a condition called seborrheic dermatitis, an inflammation of the scalp. Dandruff occurs when a kind of yeast feeds off the natural oils in our skin, especially in areas that produce a lot of sebum (oil secretions) like the scalp. The yeast breaks down the oil and leaves behind 'snowflakes' that are NOT really snowflakes.

To prevent 'snowflakes' that are NOT snowflakes from taking over your life, follow the simple tips below. I promise,  you'll be glad you did.

Enjoy and see you at the TOP!

Ciao!
xoxo

Tip 1: Do not overload on products that contain alcohol, like gel or hair spray. They will only exacerbate the dryness.

Tip 2: Do not apply oil directly to the scalp. Oils cover the scales but they do not treat them. Only use oil on your ends.

Tip 3: Do not use a rat tail comb to part and scratch. Parting and scratching irritates the scalp and damages your hair.

If You Don't Know, Now You Know...

Hey Lovies!

I absolutely LOVE sharing beauty tips and tricks you may not know about. I've been doing some reading and digging and I've uncovered a lot of great tips and tricks for you to try on yourself and share with others. Check em out and let me know how they work for you.

Enjoy and see you at the TOP, lovies!

Ciao! xoxo

Tip 1: Oooohhhhh Honey, Honey...did you know honey can soothe that flat iron or curling iron burn? Applying a dab of honey with a cold compress can soothe the burn because honey has anti-inflammatory properties that calm the injury before discoloration sets in.

Tip 2: Don't throw away your last little bit of lipstick! Scoop out the lipstick remains, put it into a travel sized plastic case, add a little shea butter and BAM! You have a tinted lip balm.

Tip 3: Change your bed linens weekly, especially your pillowcase. Changing your pillow cases weekly limits the amount of oil that is transferred from your hair to your face which can cause major break outs.

Tip 4: Rich, dark nail polishes are all the rage, but the stains left behind are NOT the business. To get your nails back to their normal color, try soaking your nails in denture cleaner to lift the stains left behind from the dark hued nail polishes we all love to wear!

Tip 5: Want baby soft skin? If you said YES (I hope you said yes), try making your own concoction by  taking a mix of sea salt, dry milk and baking soda and adding it to you bath water. Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

Tip 6: While coco butter has been used for generations and generations to 'even' out skin tone, there is not scientific proof that it actually evens out the skin. If you like cocoa butter, keep using it just because it makes your skin silky soft. I LOVE my Queen Helene Cocoa Butter!

Tip 7: Got dry skin or eczema? Soothe both conditions by taking a bath using cold pressed castor and olive oil.

Tip 8: Need a new lip color? Try mixing eyeshadow OR blush with lip gloss.

Tip 9: Going for a more natural look? Dip your sponge in water prior to applying foundation. The sponge will soak up the water and be too full to absorb excess foundation.

Tip 10: Wrinkle prevention? Got it right here! When applying moisturizer ALWAYS apply in an upward motion.

DIY Marble Nails...

Hey Lovies!

I can do a lot of things, but painting my nails is not one of them. For those of you that are adventurous and talented when it comes to polishing nails, this may be the post for you. Below I've shared the step by step process on how to achieve this hot new nail polish trend, MARBLE NAILS! Yup, I said it marble nails.

If you're brave and you give it a whirl, let me know by snapping a pic and sending it to me via email at boujebeauty@gmail.com and I'll post your pic on the blog and on my FB page. I look forward to seeing the designs you all come up with.

Good luck, enjoy annnnnddddd See ya at the TOP!

Ciao!
xoxo

How to Achieve Marble Nails:

1. Apply a base coat to nails. The base coat will help the polish 'stick' to the nails and it helps with longevity.

2. Take out as many colors you want to create your design. Remember the marbling process is rather time consuming, so you may consider starting out with a limited number of colors until you get comfortable.

3. Fill a bowl you don't care about ruining with room temperature water. If the water is not room temperature, fill the bowl and leave it out for about an hour so that it gets to the correct temperature. The incorrect temperature could ruin your look.

4. Choose the first color polish you'd like to use and take out the wand. Do not try to remove the polish drop from the tip of the wand. Simply hold the wand over the bowl filled with water and let it drop. The drop will fall and quickly spread across the water's surface.

5. Do the same thing with the  other polishes you've chosen.

6. Continue to alternate the colors until desired color mixture is achieved.

7. Take a toothpick and divide the design into two separate parts.

8. Make as many lines in the design as you'd like.

9. When you've completed the design, dip your nail into the bowl and remove.

10. Repeat this step until all nails are completely covered with the marble design.

11. When your nails dry, carefully clean them with nail polish remover and add a top coat.

12. VOILA! You now have marble nails!

Relax...Relate...RELEASE...

Hey Lovies!

It's the holiday season and you know what that means?! Lot's of S-T-R-E-S-S! I don't know about y'all, but this holiday season I'm super stressed. It seems like if it's not one thing it's another and then on top of it all I am traveling like crazy for work and for play. In order to bring myself down a notch, I like to treat myself. I usually treat myself by going to get my hair and nails done, followed by a facial and if there's some money left over I'll throw in a massage too! But since it's the holidays and my time and funds are limited I'm sticking to my do-it-yourself relaxation plan!

To relax myself at home and on the cheap I light a few candles, run a bath and add a few drops of jasmine oil to my warm bath. Adding the jasmine oil to your bath has been proven to ease tension. If you really want to relax...pour yourself a glass of wine, turn off the bathroom lights and *ahem, in my Guy voice* jusssssttttt chill...LOL! (I'm so funny some times...LOL!)

Anyway, try it out lovies, you'll be glad you did annnnndddd if you have any great relaxation tips you'd like to share hit me up on Facebook @ www.facebook.com/pblb08 or via Twitter @PBLB08 and use the trending topic #RelaxRelateRelease

Enjoy and see ya at the TOP, lovies!

Put A Little Salt Up In It...

Okay, Lovies...you guys know I LOVE salt just as much as the next person, maybe a little too much. I can't help it, it's in my genes...my mama loves salt, her daddy loved salt, her siblings love salt, so it's ONLY natural that I love salt too. BUT this time I'm not talking about adding salt to your food, I'm talking about adding salt to your beauty regimen! I know y'all are looking at this post and thinking to yourself, 'What has this crazy girl come up with now?!' To answer your question, if it was a question, I will say I'm not crazy and all the ways you can use Epsom salt in your beauty regimen are absolutely fantastic. Epsom salt can be used for more than nursing old sports injuries (YES! I played sports in high school and college...don't let the girly girl look, the make-up, the four inch heels and the barely there skirts fool you...I will post you up under the basket in a heart beat...LOL!).

Take a look at some of the AWESOME ways Epsom Salt can be added to your beauty regimen.

See you at the TOP, lovies!

Ciao!
xoxo

Use Numero Uno: Body Scrub

Just add a spoonful of crused salts to your favorite body wash and create your own body exfoliator.

Use Numero Dos: Beach Hair

I know it's winter, but sometimes the winter weather gets you down. When the winter weather gets you down use a little Epsom salt and create beach hair. To make this mixture take a spoonful of salts, a few drops of olive oil, and 1/4 cup of water. Pour it into a spray bottle and spritz away.

Megan Fox and AMAZING beach hair

Use Numero Tres: Bruise Fader

Had a rough drunken night out? Hurt yourself in the gym? Just have random bruises that come out of nowhere? Never fear, Epsom salt is here! Add two cups of salt into your bath and soak. The minerals in the salt make dark marks fade faster.

I'd LOVE to soak in this luxurious bathtub
Calgon, take me away!
